People often ask us "which is your favourite trip?" So here's the answer! Between us at Gecko's we've travelled to pretty much every country in the world, so here's our educated pick of our best trips; the ones we loved when we did them. Feel free to drop us a line to find out more.

Cairo to Casablanca

Steve Wroe - Destination Manager

This is the mother of all journeys. After exploring the Nile Valley and its countless treasures, you travel along the north coast of Africa, as many centuries of history come alive before you. Enormous (and remarkably intact) Roman and Greek cities fuse with modern Mediterranean culture making this region incredibly exciting. The food, scenery and shift in culture are mind-blowing. THEN you reach Morocco, one of the most colourful exciting travel destinations on earth!

Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro

Georgia McGoldrick - Reservations Supervisor

My favourite trip! This is also very popular with Gecko's travellers. Buenos Aires and Rio are two wonderful cities, and the sights you enjoy in-between them - including the Iguazu Falls, to Atlantic Jungle - are awesome!

Grand China Adventure

David Kincade - Accounts

I love active holidays, as well as time ‘off the beaten track’ so this trip is perfect for me. I especially like the fact that you can walk along a remote section of the Great Wall, and the horse-trekking in Songpan - a beautiful region – is amazing. Tiger Leaping Gorge is also pretty special - 3000 metre cliffs rise from the raging waters of the upper Yangtze, with snow-capped mountains framing the whole scene.

Mt Kilimanjaro Trek

Lou Day - Retail Manager

The entire trek far exceeded my expectations. The varied landscape, moving from rainforest to the lunar plateaux, and finally reaching the snow-capped peak at 5895m, was spectacular. Kilimanjaro is classed as a ‘challenging trek’ and after getting up at 11.30pm to start the long trek to the summit I can see why - who has energy after three hours sleep at over 4750 metres? However stepping out to a white blanket of snow and a clear starry night soon awakened the senses. As you go ‘polé polé’ (slowly slowly) up the steady switchbacks you truly feel in a world of your own, with the sunrise behind you and the clouds a blanket below. After eight hours of up, up and more up I finally reached Uhuru Peak, high above the African plains. The varied stages of emotions as I came over the top is an experience I will never forget - the sense of achievement indescribable. If you ever want to feel ‘on top of the world’ this is your chance!

Sabah Close-up

Chris Kavanagh - Groups Consultant

I loved the chance to come up close to Orang-Utans and probiscus monkeys. I also like the idea of putting on my trekking boots, and walking right into the jungle looking for wildlife. The climb up Mt. Kinabalu - at 4101 metres – is a great challenge!

Trans Mongolian Railway

Cathy Ashton - Publications Manager

Epic journeys, especially ones rich in history and wide in scope, are what really inspire me! To travel from Tiananmen Square to Red Square, via the open spaces of Mongolia and Siberia, and journey from one great continent to another, experiencing all that diversity in between, is something never to be forgotten!

Cuba Fantastica

Steve Mortimer - Destination Manager

Of course, I love all of our trips, as I am the guy who gets to research and put them together. Right now I am just back from Cuba and believe me, this destination is one of the hottest around. Music, dance, revolution, colonial charm and vibrant Afro-Latin culture abound. My suggestion is to get yourself to Cuba before everybody else does.

Turkish Delight

Naomi Best - Graphic Designer

Turkey has been a favourite of mine for years – in particular the pockmarked landscapes of Cappadocia, where huge rock pinnacles rise from the valley floor. Throughout the region there are fascinating little villages, many carved directly out of (or into!) the soft volcanic rock. There are incredible underground churches and even huge underground cities. An amazing place!

Best of Burma

Melinda Baxter - Sales Coordinator

Everything about Burma/Myanmar was beautiful - the people, the scenery and the food! The Schwedagon Pagoda in Yangon can be seen for miles, and when you get up close to it, you can’t help but be awestruck. Spending a day cycling around Bagan was one of the most wonderful days travelling I’ve ever had. Inle Lake - often described as the Venice of Asia – was the perfect finale! I’ll be back!

Conquistador

Gabrielle Bilston - Retail Consultant

What a trip! For most of us, a trip to South America is a once-in-a-lifetime experience... so you might as well make the most of it! This trip covers many of the highlights in a little over a month, travelling from Quito to La Paz. A brilliant experience!

Everest Base Camp

Chris Howie - Product Coordinator

Walking amongst the highest mountains in the world is an experience that changes your life and your perceptions. The friendly Sherpa people and the awe-inspiring views of the region make this area my favourite.

Egypt Encompassed

Phil Kimberlee - Reservations Manager

I had sort of assumed the Western Desert would be miles and miles of sand dunes, but I couldn't have been more wrong – I was amazed by the incredible variety of landscape. It was our Bedouin crew who really made the trip special. We spent five days with them, travelling in jeeps from Cairo to Luxor and it was one of the most memorable trips I have ever had.

Eastern Rhythms

Julian McGrath - Reservations

This has got to be the best East African itinerary out there! In just over 3 weeks, we travelled through 4 beautiful, unique countries, experiencing their cultures and viewing the wildlife. From the Mountain Gorillas of Rwanda to the Lions and Rhinos in Ngorongoro crater, and the fascinating tribes of the Masai Mara, each day was a new adventure.

Cambodia in Depth

Dawn Maxa - Groups Deparment Manager

I love South East Asia and particularly Cambodia. This Geckos trip not only took me to the famous Angkor Temples in Siem Reap and the markets and Palaces in Phnom Penh but we also went off the beaten track to some of the more remote areas, visiting some amazing beaches and national parks in Kep, Kampot and Sihanoukville in Southern Cambodia. The tour had everything from history, fantastic culture, adventure, beautiful people, energetic activities and also relaxation on the tropical beaches. We also enjoyed plenty of delicious food, particularly the fresh seafood that we bought off the locals when we did our island cruise. An absolutely awesome Geckos experience not to be missed!
