About
Our favourite things about Uganda
- Hang out
It started out as an animal orphanage in 1952, then it was a regular zoo and now it’s a place where you can go to learn about animals and stuff.
Drink it in
Our camp on the Nile River is a Geckos’ favourite thanks to a bar overlooking the water. Don’t be alarmed when you hear screams, they’re probably just coming from the bungee jumping tower 100m down the river (probably).
Bag a bargain
When you hear the word ‘mzungu’ at Owino market, they’re talking to you foreigner. It’s the biggest market in the country so if you can’t find a bargain here you’re not looking hard enough.
Kazinga cruising
You’ll find a few big name animals here including elephants, Ugandan kobs and maybe lions, but the boat ride on Kazinga Channel is the real winner.
Gin for the win
You can’t leave without trying some waragi – Ugandan gin. It’s hotter than a bushfire with more kick than an angry giraffe. If anyone asks, you’re drinking it to keep the mozzies at bay.
