Here’s the first in our new series of product reviews. We’re gonna highlight a bunch of useful bits and bobs that can help improve your travel experience. From gadgets, luggage, clothing and accessories, these products have all gotten the thumbs up from Gecko’s.
Today we’ll look at the Logitech Ultimate Ears 200 Noise-Isolating Earphones. First up, they come in a bunch of cool colours. Naturally I got pink because it’s my favourite colour. Secondly, they come with a little travel case meaning they are perfect for, well, travelling.
I was stoked to discover the five pairs of spare ear cushions (ie. the little silicone bits that stick in your ears). Did you know that ears can be different sizes? Me either. Well, obviously I knew they ranged from tiny baby to Prince Charles size. But I always thought the inside bits were relatively the same. Not so!
Logitech has gone to great lengths to cover every conceivable ear size - the spare cushions range from XXS to L. So have a play around to work out which one is the most comfortable for you (for the record, I’m a small. Am going to also assume this size somehow miraculously applies to my waist).
Perfect for travel
The spares are great for travelling, cos it’s always the tiniest things that end up getting lost in your bag. They’re also great if you make a new pal (inevitable) and want to share your favourite song or podcast. Your mate can grab one of the spares and whack it on their end so neither of you get ear cooties (I’m assuming that’s a thing).
Now, this is embarrassing, but I’ve never worn noise-isolating earphones before. I’ve always stuck to the little white ones that come standard with most Apple products. I figured they did the trick, but boy was I wrong! I couldn’t believe how perfectly the little tapered plugs sat in my ears, and how much sound they blocked out.
These Logitech babies are tuned with a slight increase in high frequencies. It was like I was hearing my favourite music for the first time. And it really made a difference to podcasts as I found the voices to have a lot more clarity.
Get lost in the music
They’re ideal for noisy bus trips, noisy plane trips, noisy train trips…ok you get the drift. Basically, they’re great for anywhere you need block out the sound and get lost in the music.
These would’ve come in super handy on my recent trip to Africa. See, I downloaded the Lion King soundtrack. And I put “Circle of Life” on while watching the sunset one night. The whole moment came to life. The colours seemed brighter, the experience seemed more meaningful and the gravity of where I was really had a chance to sink in. And if I had these noise-isolating earphones it would have also drowned out the sound of my own blubbering. Well, for me at least. Same can’t be said for everyone else!
So the Logitech Ultimate Ears 200 gets the thumbs up from us here at Gecko’s. They’re super cheap, and we highly recommend grabbing a pair before your next trip. And do yourself a favour, download Circle of Life. Guaranteed to make any moment seem more special.
