We all know that one of the best parts about travelling is the food. Trying the exotic flavours and delicious treats of a new cuisine is a real highlight for many. But it can also mean that those favourite jeans don't fit quite so well upon your return! Don't fear we have some handy little tips to help you keep those extra holiday kilos at bay...
1. Try to go for a walk or a run everyday
This is a great way to see the sights as well as burning a few calories. If you've got a spare 30 minutes before breakfast head out and hit the pavement, ask your reception desk for a map of the local area and for any recommendations of nearby parks.
2. Get down and do some yoga and pilates
If you have some previous experience with yoga and pilates then you an take this exercise anywhere. Utilise that floor space between your bed and the bathroom and practice your poses. If you need some inspiration for your routine, download a yoga app on your iPhone or iPad before you leave or if you have internet access in your room search for a routine on youtube.com.
3. Find some wheels
Riding a bike is an easy way to get around and to see some more of the sights. Many cities offer guided bike tours or ask your local guide or the reception desk if there are any places nearby where you can hire a bike.
4. Try the local sporty activities
If you're near a beach, go for a swim, surf or try paddleboarding. If you're close to a national park, throw on your walking shoes and go for a hike. Keep an eye out for a local tennis court, soccer field or basketball court. Not only is this a great opportunity to get some exercise but it's the perfect time to try something new and meet some locals.
5. Eat healthy
Try to eat healthy when you can. This means trying to avoid the pastries at the breakfast buffet and opting for fresh fruit and yoghurt instead. And stock up on your snacks where you can, so you don't feel the urge to grab those quick and easy sugary goodies from the convenience stores along the way.
