For all of you who are thinking about rattling along the tracks of the Trans-Mongolian Railway, or just dreaming of taking the world’s greatest and biggest train ride, you’ve got to have a look at these photos – fascinating pics from the Library of Congress of pre-revolutionary Russia, taken over the course of a photographer’s three years travelling the country. (The photographer, by the way, is the chap in the photo above – one Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii.)
Our trip there, incidentally, takes in much more than just the rails: 23 days, with stops at Lake Baikal and overnight ger camping in the Gobi Desert – take a look here.
