8 Moons of China
The China highlights tour – the Great Wall in Beijing, killer street food and Terracotta Warriors in Xian, and the high life in China’s biggest city, Shanghai. Haaaii there dumplings.
3 wise Chinese proverbs (and one that made us laugh):- He who strikes the first blow admits he's lost the argument.- War does not determine who is right, war determines who is left.- Cheap things are not good, good things are not cheap.- Man who streaks is unsuited for his work.(Was Fast & Furious China)
Day 1-3 - Beijing & Great WallArrive at any time today and get acquainted with Beijing on your own before joining your group and leader for a meeting at the hotel at 6pm. Then head out for an optional first night dinner. Go nuts and order your Peking duck for your first meal in the country. First the skin is carved and served in pancakes, next the carcass is chopped and cooked up into a soup. Don't forget to grab your doggy bag (ducky bag?) of leftovers. On Day 2 we head out to the Great Wall at Mutianyu - one of the best preserved and easily accessible sections from Beijing. Take in the surrounding amazing views (provided that it is a clear day!).Day 3 we spend the morning exploring the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. In the afternoon enjoy free time to explore as you wish, maybe visiting the 798 Art District, jumping on a bike and riding through the hutongs, hanging out in the Temple of Heaven park or visiting the Lama Temple.Included ActivitiesForbidden CityGreat Wall Mutianyu
Day 4-5 - XianBoard a high-speed train train to Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi province and start of the Silk Road. In your free time today we highly recommend visiting the Muslim Quarter with its great market and peaceful Great Mosque, climbing the Bell or Drum Towers or feasting on amazing street food.On Day 5 we visit the Terracotta Warriors with a local guide, spending a good few hours wandering around this phenomenal historical site.Board the overnight six-berth hard-sleeper class train to and sleep all the way to Shanghai.Included ActivitiesTerracotta Warriors
Day 6-8 - ShanghaiArrive in Shanghai, China's largest city, once known as the 'Paris of the East'. Join your leader for a walking tour of historical Shanghai including the Bund with its spectacular array of art deco style buildings, the narrow winding lanes of the Nongtang or the European-influenced French Concession. Choose your own adventure next: Visit the Propaganda Museum for a fascinating look at China's revolutionary past. Get a bird's eye view of the city from the Pearl Tower's observation decks. The impressive Shanghai Museum houses one of the best collections of Chinese bronze and artwork - you could easily spend the whole day here discovering the various exhibitions. If you're really brave, ask your leader to order the most "local" dish on the menu tonight for your final night dinner tonight. The trip finishes on Day 8 after breakfast.Included ActivitiesWalking Tour
