Why we love this trip

  • Float in the ocean, bake on the beach, don't go chasing waterfalls (actually do) and conquer a volcano - like you do. The island landscapes of Bali and Lombok are epic!

  • Make like a sponge and soak up every drop of Ubud's relaxed atmosphere. A walk among the bright green rice fields is as Bali as it gets

  • There's nothing like waking up at three in the morning to climb a mountain, eh? The active volcano of Mount Batur is worth every minute of sleep you lose

  • This sentence will have you feeling Gili T. Sorry. Three nights in this island paradise is the perfect way to wind up a trip of a lifetime

Is this trip right for you?

  • Bali and Lombok can be extremely hot and humid. It’s important to prepare for hot sticky temperatures during the day and sometimes cooler climates in the evening. Layers are the best way to tackle this disparity in weather.

  • On Day 5 there will be a long day of driving, which can take up to six hours in total. The scenery is amazing and this is a great chance to get to know your fellow travellers.

  • On Day 6 there's a steep uphill climb of Mount Batur, starting very early in the morning at 3 am. The climb takes around two hours and requires a good level of fitness.

  • On Day 7 you'll encounter a long day of travelling, as you take a slow ferry to Lombok and then drive to Tetebatu. The drive alone is around three hours, so be prepared with your favourite travel games.

  • This trip affords lots of free time so that you're able to experience Bali and Lombok the way you imagined. If you're in need of optional activities, your leader will be on hand to help.

Rise extremely early today at around 3 am to reach the summit of Mt Batur. On your included walk, you'll be just in time to witness the sunrise over the valleys of Bali. At 1,717 metres high, Mount Batur sits inside a spectacular caldera along with Lake Batur, which is an awesome sight to see. The lake supports the local fishing industry, while many of the villagers work as guides for the volcano climb. It's important to note that this climb takes around one and a half to two hours, but it's all uphill so a decent level of fitness is required.

On a clear morning, it's possible to see all the way across the Lombok Strait to the peaks of Lombok's Mt. Rinjani. The weather can be unpredictable, so the view is up to Mother Nature. After descending the volcano, there may be an option to soak in hot springs with great views over the lake and caldera. Later in the afternoon, transfer back to the beachside of Sanur. Your evening is free to relax after today's climb.

Notes: You need appropriate walking shoes, head torch, waterproof jacket and warm clothing for Mt. Batur and Bedugul. While these are possible to buy in Bali, you might prefer to bring from home to ensure correct fit and quality.

This morning, transfer to the port town of Padang Bai and take a fast boat to Lombok. The scenery is really different from Bali and the people are predominantly Muslim rather than Hindu, so Lombok is a great contrast to what you've previously experienced. From here, take a bus ride to Tetebatu, which can take between three and four hours. The hill retreat of Tetebatu, situated in the centre of Lombok and at the southern base of Mt. Rinjani, provides spectacular views of the region.
