They’ve got red hair, cheeky personalities and 360-degree rotatable hips – no, they’re not the satanic spawn of Fred and George Weasley, they’re the orangutans of Borneo.
The highest point in South East Asia? Check. Orangutans? Check. The kind of scenery that looks like it’s straight out of the Jungle Book? You betcha.
What we’re getting at here is that Borneo has a lot going for it. And when you visit Borneo with Geckos, you can float down the Kinabatangan River, climb Mt Kinabalu, search KK for the best food you can find, and of course…just sit around and take it all in.
It’s pretty much the best way to see Borneo you can possibly think of.
What people say
Borneo really exceeded all of my expectations. The Mt Kinabalu climb was definitely the big highlight – our guide, Richard, was really great at encouraging the whole group and making sure that we could all reach the summit. The view from the top was well worth the pain!

This trip has a little bit of everything, and although at times physically challenging (that mountain is just 9km of straight stairs and rock climbing people, and you will not be able to walk the next day), and other times a bit out of your comfort zone (e.g. group learning session on how to use a squat toilet), its at all times amazing fun (following orangutans around the jungle anyone?). I loved every second. Just note that 80% deet is essential, especially for the jungle camp!
