Ice Ice Baby
Add just one letter to the front and ‘Iceland’ becomes ‘Niceland’. Coinkidink? Well, Reykjavik has kooky-as street art, scrumptious nosh, a stupidly fun night scene and the Blue Lagoon. The Golden Circle has Strokkur Geysir, Gullfoss waterfall and Thingvellier National Park. This joint has puffins. Niceland.
Important Iceland dates: In 1413, dried fish was used as currency. Beer was banned until March 1989. In 1976, rabbits were imported to Iceland from Spain and they (the rabbits, not the people) subsequently had falling out with native puffin birds.
Day 1 - REYKJAVIK
Björk, Sigur Rós and Of Monsters and Men were all born and raised here. We're not saying that 22 hours of daylight creates musical geniuses, but... we're not NOT saying it either.
Experience the eclectic arts and music scene of Reykjavik
Marvel at geothermal geysers and spectacular waterfalls
Visit isolated, coastal villages and see the surreal Northern Lights
You can arrive at any time today. There will be a welcome note in the lobby of your hotel with all sort of useful information such as pick up time for day 2, optional activity information, recommended restaurants and details of our local operations team.Guesthouse Aurora or similar
Day 2 - THE GOLDEN CIRCLE
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel on Day 2 at approximately 8.30am (see your welcome pack on arrival for details).
Take a guided walk (you don't have to line up in pairs, this isn't school) then head out and get your head around the surrounding nature. The words Gullfoss, Strokkur Geysir and Thingvellir probably don't mean anything to you now, but they soon will.
Visit The Golden Circle - Iceland's most popluar day trip - and take in the Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir Hot Spring area and Thingvellir National ParkGuesthouse Aurora or similarBreakfast
Day 3 - FREE DAY
A free day means whale watching, horse riding, galleries and exhibitions. Or it might mean stuffing your face with some of the local fare. Seafood is, not surprisingly, everywhere. You can get amazing lobster soup and fish kebabs. But you might be surprised to learn that hot dogs are ridiculously popular. Head to Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur and grab the eina með öllu (hot dog with the lot). There's ketchup, mustard, raw onions, remolaði (sweet curry sauce) and cronions (crispy friend onions). You're welcome.
Perhaps enjoy some whale watching, horse riding, viewing the Northern Lights or taking in galleries and exhibitions on this free day
Sample the local fare - seafood here is incredibleGuesthouse Aurora or similarBreakfast
Day 4 - DEPARTURE DAY
You've seen all those photos of happy people in Reykjavic, splashing about in ridiculously blue water, wearing swimsuits and not shivering, steam rising up around them with mountains off in the distance? Well, now it's your turn. Stop here on the way to the airport, you can stash your stuff in lockers and go get your geothermal recuperation on.
Enjoy the last few hours in Iceland before departing in your own time
Perhaps stop off at the 'Blue Lagoon' en route to the airportBreakfast
