Addo Elephant National Park

The best park in the south of the country is a real success story – when Addo Park was created it was to protect the 11 elephants that remained in this beautiful bushveld in the Eastern Cape. Some 80 years later and the numbers have swollen to nearly 500. It’s not just elephants here though: the full big five can be spotted, and in the park’s coastal waters southern right whales and great whites as well. And for those who are big gamed out, the really enthusiastic can get down and dirty and hunt for one of the park’s smaller oddities – the unique flightless dung beetle.
