Arenal - Costa Rica's most active volcano
A 1,600 metre perfect cone, Arenal is northwest Costa Rica’s fire-breather, the country’s most active volcano. The fertile slopes support spectacular vegetation – perfect for a hike and a horse-trek. Further up and the volcano becomes barren, a newly-formed part of the earth that is constantly changing. Night-time brings the best from this spectacular beast: huge red-hot rocks firing out of its mouth while molten lava coats its face. And if you want exotic, take a dip in the cascada de la fortuna waterfalls – a perfect arc of whitewater plunging near the iconic volcano.
