Buddhism's birthplace in Lumbini

Buddhism's birthplace in Lumbini

Lumbini is as meditative a place as you would expect for one of Buddhism’s most revered sites. Some 2,500 years ago, where Lumbini’s Mayadevi Temple now stands, Siddhartha Gautama was born. 35 years later, after reaching enlightenment, Siddhartha would teach others the truth as he saw it, come to be known as Lord Buddha, and found one of the world’s great faiths. His birthplace stands among Nepal’s southern plains, looking out to Himalayan foothills, a place of calm pilgrimage, where saffron robed monks express their devotion among the temples, Bodhi tree and placid ponds, and visitors quickly feel the calming influence of this eternally peaceful spot.
