Colonial Old Goa

You arrive itching to get to the beach, but you leave Old Goa reluctant to say goodbye. A collection of churches are all that remains of a city that once rivalled Lisbon in its magnificence and was larger than London. But what great remains they are: splendid baroque facades mingle amidst lush green surroundings as the Mandovi River rolls along nearby. You might need a fair bit of imagination to imagine this peaceful, verdant corner of Goa as the teeming metropolis it once was – best then to enjoy it for itself, a unique, flamboyant expression of faith rolled out among seductively tropical surroundings.
