The Lares Trek: Peru's other trail
Well off the beaten path, anyone who has walked the Lares Trek knows that it makes a convincing case of being even more spectacular than the classic Inca Trail. Topping out at 4,350 metres, like the better known trail, the Lares takes walkers through varied terrain and some of the finest Andean scenery you’ll see in all of South America. Views of Mount Veronica are particular good on the Lares, and the turquoise waters of Epsaycocha Lake make for one of the most scenic camping spots around. A wonderful challenge through little explored valleys, by the time you reach Machu Picchu, your weary legs have earned it.
