The Serra Verde Express
Anyone scared of heights, look away now. Curitiba sits above the hills on Brazil’s east, and a train ride down towards the Atlantic coast tumbles you through gorges, skirts drop-offs and crosses cloud-clad soaring bridges. As the altitude lowers, the rainforest thickens, the air grows heavy with loamy tropical scents, and the Atlantic appears, winking in the sun. It’s heart-quickening, eye-popping scenery, a visual feast, and definitely one of South America’s great rail rides.
