The 'Temple of the Tooth' in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Sacred City of Kandy
World class botanical gardens, produce markets and colonial charm make Kandy a traveller’s treat to wander. Strike out in any direction and you’ll be immersed in beauty and history and the full panoply of Sinhalese culture, and quite a few oddities too, including the much revered Temple of the Tooth. The Temple of the Tooth is home to a tooth of Buddha snatched from his funeral pyre 2500 years ago. Its occasional revelation is said to bless the land and bring rain in drought stricken times. Perhaps it’s only fitting a tooth fallen from its seat has found its final home in Kandy.
