Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley
Experiencing the juxtapositions are a highlight of Morocco: the serenity of the courtyard and the souk’s bustle; the hammam and the burkah. The Atlas Mountains provide a stunning example of this with a tour of the Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley. The gorge, a gigantic crack in the mountains, is best appreciated on foot. The rose and gold cliffs tower above you, the landscape harsh and beautiful, untamed – one of the country’s great sights. The stretch of the Dades Valley nearby is again a world where the rocks and earth are all reds and brown. Here though, bold flashes of green brilliantly puncture the arid landscape. The Berber people farm this area, and the vegetables and fruit, cereals and herbs grown here are a testament to their ingenuity and determination.
