Trans Mongolian Railway
The rolling Mongolian plains are legendary for their endless expanse and the felt tent homes of its nomads, and there’s no better vantage from which see it all than a train rolling by at a distinctly Mongolian pace. This is the world’s greatest train journey and the landscape from the Gobi Desert to the Russian Steppe is postcard perfect. You’ll take plenty of photos of inside the train too; you’ll get to know your cabin and carriage mates in such classic confines and perhaps toast the good fortune of your shared experience with a vodka shot or two. In Mongolia, they drink to the god of the blue sky and you can honour her with a few drops flicked skywards, but be sure to flick a few out for the train and your journey too; this is a trip that’s as famed as the country it traverses and one you’ll undoubtedly remember forever.
