Walk to remote Rumbak
Travelling from the hubbub of Delhi, everything is so utterly different and distinct in Ladakh that it feels as if you’ve landed on an island in the sky. And things get even wilder as you make your way by foot to Rumbak. The vast land and the huge sky – the bare bones of existence engulf you on the dusty track. Slender green valleys rise up to arid slopes and jagged ridges running along mountaintops, the world seemingly all but devoid of humans – this is one of India’s most remote corners, a beautiful hidden pocket of land where times stands still and travellers are a rare breed. Breathe deep – not just to combat the altitude, but because the air, and the light, has a purity in these austere hills that you won’t find in many other places in the world.
