Five facty-things about India & Nepal
- Is there a shortened version?
India’s longest train station is called Venkatanarasimharajuvaripeta. - Widow’s luck:
A widow is considered bad luck in India – otherwise her husband wouldn’t have died. - Touchy:
It’s considered offensive to touch anything with your feet in Nepal (shoes and floors are obvious exceptions). - The ancient art of plastic surgery:
Apparently the first recorded account of plastic surgery was found in ancient Indian Sanskrit texts. - Individuality:
Nepal’s flag is the only one in the world that’s not rectangular or quadrilateral (that means a four-sided shape).

Had the best time ever. Both Bhannu Singh (Indian tour guide) and Krishh Lama (Nepal tour guide) were the best ever tour guide anyone could of wanted. Nothing was too much for either of them. I felt entirely safe at all times, and anything we requested or asked if we could do was successfully organised by them both. Geckos are extremely lucky to have such reliable guides:)

It was a really good experience! India was a bit different to how I expected but we had a great trip. Our tour leader great too and answered all of my many questions!

The Rajasthan at a Glance was an excellent tour for my first visit to India - it was amazing to visit the Palaces, Forts and Temples plus the stays in small villages gave a great introduction to Indian culture.

To the management of Gecko tours Last March, Nine friends and I travelled to Nepal and India. Last night we had our first reunion since our remarkable trip, . It prompted me to finally send you my greatest compliments for our guides . Binod and Lockie were just amazing travel companions, nothing was a problem for them and managing nine women was not an easy feat . I always felt so protected and at the same time felt as though I was having such an adventure. They all had an incredible sense of fun and were a constant source of information and advice. Our beautiful guides were a reflection of all things unique and brilliant of these amazing countries and an outstanding representation of your company. Congratulations on getting the balance right of providing outstanding fun and adventure with informative , Spiritual and a nurturing environment Fondest appreciation

I had a great time. The time well spent!!! and would recommend to anyone. Tour leaders in both Nepal & India were excellent always going the extra mile! The only think I did not like, due to low budget is the fact we relied on hotels food or home-stay food. In many cases the food was excellent, just the prices were a bit too high, in my eyes

The trip was great! Only suggestion would be to add an extra night in Jaipur, perhaps taking from either Varanasi or Delhi.

I really enjoyed the tour. A few things i felt were: The trip in general was not long enough and the Delhi and Jaipur legs felt very very rushed. It would be nice if there was a few more activites inlcuded. It was a tad annoying always having to pay to do extra, it was never a lot of money, but regardless it would have been nice

Our trip started in Kathmandu on the 3rd of March 2012.... We met our tour guide Binod Maharjan at the introduction along with 5 other travellers... there were 15 of us and we had the most amazing adventure!!!! I have always travelled independantly and have avoided tour groups.... I reluctantly said yes to a tour with the group of friends I was travelling with, mainly due to being time poor! Best decision ever!!! I would now tell anyone wanting to see Nepal or India to join a Gecko tour as not only was the tour designed to encompass everything we wanted to experience, the wealth of knowledge our tour guides had along with their eye to detail and our comfort and safety was AMAZING!!!! I have come home with the most amazing memories and am now back working hard to save to join another Gecko tour next year!!! The most wonderful adventure!

It was an amazing experience in Nepal, and our tour leader Bimal was probably the best I have ever had in all the tours around the world I have ever done. He was so knowledgable and helpful and friendly he actually made the holiday even better than it was turning out to be anyway.

I really enjoyed the trip. Our tour guides did the best they could. Our tour guide in Nepal did a good job. However I did not understand him most of the time. Therefore I was unable to take in any information regarding the sites we went to. However he did his best. I really enjoyed India. Our tour guide here was much better. His home town was in jaipiur and he introduced us to his family & friends. He took a further step to make the trip more personalized. He also brought us to have dinner with a royal family which I thought made the trip that extra special.

The Road to Delhi was an absolutely amazing experience!! Every day we would find our new favourite experience! There was the perfect balance of organised activity and free time. A once in a lifetime experience was definately the visit to Tordi village.... it was truly an amazing grassroots experience!

This tour was my first trip overseas. I'm nineteen and I joined the tour alone. Dheerendra, our tour guide, made me feel incredibly cared for and safe for the whole duration of the trip. He answered all of my annoying questions and was always perking us up with some good jokes and a smile. I really appreciated it. The tour itself was well organised. There was a good amount of free time and flexibility in terms of activities. I just really want to say thank you to the whole team at Gecko and most importantly to Dheerendra for the experiences that I had during the tour.

I really enjoyed the tour. We had an excellent leader and an interesting cast during the 10 days. I liked that people joined and left the tour as it went along - it kept things fresh and interesting.
India is a beautiful country and it was nice to see it at a "closer-to-ground-level" way with the local transit.

Our Hindi tour guide, Abhay Gupta was so fantastic. He was enthusiastic, informative and very caring. He went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a good time. I loved India as a result of our guide. The Nepali guide, Sundar was understandable less informative, although i must consider he was filling in at the last minute when our scheduled guide was unable to make the trip.

The trip exceeded my expectations by ensuring we travelled safely through Nepal and India. As a group we had a lot of fun and shared similar interests in activities, meals and photography. Our tour leader Harish in India went out of his way to ensure details were planned to the minute including taking us to the IPL cricket and an old Bollywood movie which were not cultural activities on the plan.
The drives were very long on really bad roads, with a very early start most mornings, but he kept us going.

What a trip! Brilliant from start to finish! Highlights had to be trekking in the Himalayas, not falling in the water when white water rafting (but still getting very wet!) spotting rhino whilst riding elephants in Chitwan National Park, riding a on a camel cart, playing cricket with the local children in Tordi, surviving the madness of Delhi, watching the sun rise and set from a boat on the river Ganges, visiting the Taj Mahal, and going to see a Bollywood movie Indian style! And I have to admit to even loving our overnight train experience!

Overall the trip was amazing and well worth the money, but I would have appreciated a more detailed cost breakdown before booking the trip. I knew there was going to be a tipping kitty, but the amount caught me off guard. Maybe if you could include a guesstimated 'extras' price (including the tipping kitty amount) along with the overall price of the trip. For all us travelers on a tight budget! Otherwise, I was completely satisfied with the entire trip!

Northern trip excellent, southern trip could miss Pondicherry, definitely Auroville and less time in Madurai. In Cochin we would have liked more info on optionals such as visiting tea plantation, etc. Maybe the possibility of going to a National Park such as Periyar before Varkala. Southern trip was disappointing in comparison.

I enjoyed this trip it was fairly layed back, it is a little pedestrian so if you are looking to be on the go seeing things all day every day then this is not the trip for you. However if you want a little sight seeing and lots of free time to swim, browse the markets and have massages then this is probably for you. Personally I didn't think there were enough activities for my liking but thats just me. If I had my time again I would do the south of India first then the North, not the other way around. I hope you get Vishal as your tour leader he was lovely.

This was a good trip, but the three of us on the tour felt the trip advertised didnt reflect the reality. of what was advertised. No activities
were included in the cost and this was a surprise to us all. The wording needs to be clearer. Trevor - Canada, 28 Jan, 2012
Good trip, you get to see a great variety of places. Chitwan National Park, Kathmandu, and Agra were real highlights. It would be nice if the local payment were included in the trip cost though. Otherwise, it forces you to travel with an extra 300$ (600$ for a couple), let alone your spending money for the trip. This, combined with numerous optional activities, significant tipping in India, and the tips for the tour leaders, makes it difficult to budget your spending money for the trip and requires you to carry a larger sum of money on hand..I also feel that the trip description does not adequately describe the amounts of money required for tips in India..probably another 3-4$ per person/ per day which we did not budget for. On tours with other companies it was largely taken care of for included activities/transportation and optional if you thought it was merited.

Gecko provided the perfect balance allowing us to witness and experience real India (WARTS AND ALL)whilst moving around and living at a standard that was, at all times perfectly acceptable to an adventurous elderly couple and was at other times utterly delightful. We never felt that we were taking advantage of the Indian people and could see the direct benefit to them of our visit.

Every effort was made to fit in as much sightseeing combined with local information and history as possible at each venue on route.

This superb trip was so enjoyable largely as a result of our outstanding guide, Harish. We experienced a taste of the wide panoply of Indian life on afast-moving tour: wonderful landscapes and buildings, every kind of transport but most of all the real people of India. Harish was tireless in his efforts to secure our comfort and enjoyment. he went far beyond what was expected of him, makng this a truly wonderful experince.

I have been on numerous tours in the past (two of them were in India).
Gotta say this one was the best in terms of the pace of the trip, the accommodation we stayed in and the expertise and personality of our guide Santosh. Another contributing factor was that the other tour participants were all on the same wavelength and got on very well together.
Thanks to Santosh and Geckos for a great trip. Thanks also for making my birthday very special and memorable

We found the tour very insightful and our guide (Shaitan Singh Rathore) was excellent. He was a wealth of knowledge and he always put our needs first. Overall we were very pleased with the tour.
My only negative was the itineray wasnt clear on what is included (ie food, tipping, transport) so it was very difficult to assume what type of budget we would require. For us it was fine but for those traveling on stricter budgets can prove to be a big problem.

The overall trip was fantastic, I'm now in love with India! The cities chosen were perfect, the hotel was still good (for the criteria of India). The hardest thing was to finish this trip! For cons, I think my trip has been fantastic in large part because of my guide! If I compare the side price vs quality of Gecko's, is a company that stands out!I recommend this trip to all those who want to discover a part of Indian culture without the side too touristy!

Too many days of non-stop travelling - particularly in Nepal and North India.
Some hotels were well below standard - particularly Madurai - dirty sheets, fight for towels, toilet paper, very run down location.
Guide in Nepal ok, South India excellent but for Northern India Tour Leader was inadequate and we felt we missed a lot because of his inability to communicate.
Very muddled tour with travellers coming and going from various trips. No continuity.Hidden Secrets of India

I had an amazing trip! This was my first such trip and I was nervous before joining the tour, but I had great time.
The Road to Delhi
Kristina - Bulgaria, 29 Oct, 2011
The trip really exceeded my expectations. The real advantage of the tour were the local tour leaders who showed us the beauty of their countries as no other can. We were exceptionally lucky with the tour leader in India who took such great care of us that we did not feel any of the negative experiences everybody warned us about travelling to India. He also did so much on top like showing us great otional places to visit, recommended good resaurants and great meals, and told us so many stories about India that we truly fell in love with this country.
The only reasons I rated the experience Good (and not Excellent) are 3: a little improvement in transportation, some more time in Jaipur and better organized activities in Delhi. -
