  • Imagine a sea of cars, buses, tractors, motorbikes, horses, pushbikes and people all heading in different directions on roads with no discernible lanes and no traffic lights. Welcome to Cairo.

    Itinerary

    Day 1-2 - Cairo

They say about 6700 skilled craftsmen worked on the Great Pyramid. Apparently they were fed onions and bread and were only given one day off every ten days. It took 20 years to build. Sucks to be them.

    Day 1

    • Arrive in Cairo, or as the locals call it: "the Mother of the World", and get acquainted with the city

    Day 2

    • Take a trip to the celebrated Egyptian Museum
    • See the golden mask of King Tutankhamun and numerous other treasures
    • Drive out to the edge of the desert to explore the pyramids and the nearby Sphinx
    • Visit the beautiful Valley Temple of King Khafre (Chephren)
    • Jump aboard an overnight train to Luxor
    Breakfast | Dinner

Day 3-4 - Luxor - Valley of the Kings

King Tut was only nine years old when he became pharaoh. What were you doing at that age?

    Day 3

    • Arrive in Luxor and perhaps browse the extensive bazaar (great for shopaholics), the Luxor Museum or Luxor Temple
    • Optional horse-carriage ride to Karnak Temple – one of Egypt’s greatest temple complexes.

    Day 4

    • Set off on a sunrise donkey ride to the Valley of the Kings
    • Explore the Valley of the Kings and enjoy view from the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut
    • Return to the east bank and spend free time exploring the town further
    • Why not head to the bazaar or relax in a coffee shop
    Breakfast

    Day 5-6 - Aswan

It doesn’t get more relaxing than a felucca cruise on the Nile. And to top it off, we’ll stop for a camel ride into the sunset. How romantic.

    Day 5

    • Perhaps travel to Abu Simbel and the great Temple of Ramses II, one of the most impressive temples ever built
    • Why not visit the Temple of Isis at Philae
    • Explore the vibrant Nubian bazaar and perhaps check out the Nubian Museum
    • Board a traditional felucca and sail around the islands
    • Stop on the west bank and perhaps set off on a camel ride
    • Indulge in a traditional dinner at a Nubian village
    • Spend the night on the felucca

    Day 6

    • Return to Aswan and enjoy a bit of free time
    • Head back to Cairo on an overnight train
    Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

    Day 7-8 - Cairo

If you’re stuck for crappy souvenir ideas, go and buy everyone a scarab keyring at Khan al-Khalili Bazaar. Head to Sayyida Zeinab square for a tamiyya (Egyptian falafel) or some koshary, the quintessential Egyptian comfort food in Egypt (pasta, chickpeas, lentils, a tomato sauce and fried onions).

    Day 7

    • Enjoy free time to explore Cairo's highlights, including old mosques and, of course, the Khan al-Khalili Bazaar
    • Perhaps enjoy a final group dinner

    Day 8

    • The trip ends today after breakfast
