  • Apparently beer was introduced to the Egyptians by the god Osiris. And murals depicting their ancient brewing practices have been found in vaults, pyramids, and sacrificial chambers. Beer was even used as currency to pay slaves, tradesmen and priests. So grab yourself a Sakara and toast the history of beer in Egypt. It’d be rude not to.

    Itinerary

    Day 1-3 - Cairo

Tick the tombs at Saqqara, Egyptian Museum, the Sphinx and the pyramids. Catch the overnight train to Aswan on Day 3 – books, ear plugs and hand sanitiser are essential for the overnight train to Aswan.

    Day 1

    • Arrive in Cairo, or as the locals call it: "the Mother of the World", and get acquainted with the city

    Day 2

    • Stop in Memphis, the first capital of Ancient Egypt, and Saqqara, its necropolis
    • Explore the step-pyramid with a guide
    • Perhaps visit some of the nearby old kingdom tombs
    • Head back to Cairo and enjoy free time to relax or further wander around the city

    Day 3

    • Take a trip to the celebrated Egyptian Museum
    • See the golden mask of King Tutankhamun and numerous other treasures

    Day 4 - Aswan

Have a quick shower to wash off that "overnight train smell" before we head to the Temple of Isis. Hanafi Bazaar is the place to grab all of your essential souvenirs - beaded jewellery, silk kaftans, Nubian swords and sequined belly dancing costumes.

    • Arrive in Aswan, one of our favourite places
    • Drive out of town to visit the beautiful Temple of Isis at Philae
    • Return to Aswan and explore the Nubian Bazaar
    • Head out on a felucca sailboat
    • Set off on an optional camel ride towards the Monastery of St. Simeon
    Breakfast

    Day 5-7 - Nile Cruise

Even Arnie would feel small at the enormous carved statues of Abu Simbel. Then cruise the Nile in style on our riverboat, complete with a bar and a rooftop deck. We'll stop at the temples of Kom Ombo and Edfu on the way to Luxor.

    Day 5

    • Travel to Abu Simbel, one of the most impressive temples ever built
    • Take a tour of the site, one of the highlights of Egypt, and later return to Aswan
    • Board a Nile Cruise boat and spend time sleeping, relaxing, reading or enjoying the sundeck

    Day 6-7

    • Visit the Temple of Sobek, a classically-ruined Greco-Roman temple
    • Continue cruising towards Edfu, and take in some timeless scenes of life on the Nile
    • Stop at Edfu to explore the well-preserved Temple of Horus
    • Get involved in an impromptu fancy-dress party
    • Free time to explore Luxor
    • Take horse-drawn carriages to the massive complex at Karnak
    Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

    Day 8 - Luxor

Best bits: Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Hatshepsut. Get lost in the bazaar before our sleeper train back to Cairo. It's the end of the trip, so let loose and snore your heart out.

    • Journey to the Valley of the Kings on donkeys
    • Visit the outstanding Temple of Hatshepsut
    • Enjoy an afternoon at your own leisure
    • Perhaps visit Luxor Temple and the bazaar
    • Embark on an overnight recliner train back to Cairo
    Breakfast | Dinner

    Day 9-10 - Cairo

The locals in Cairo say the best way to cross the street is to close your eyes and go. When in Rome (well, Cairo)! Felfela Takeaway on Sharia Talaat Harb is our pick for tastiest fuul - Egypt's national dish of spicy fava beans mashed on pita bread.

    Day 9

    • Arrive back in Cairo and enjoy free time to explore
    • Seize the chance to visit the fantastic Khan al-Khalili bazaar
    • Perhaps enjoy a final Egyptian dinner with the group

    Day 10

    • The trip ends today after breakfast
