10,000 Minutes of Morocco
-
Overview
No amount of giggling or wriggling will deter the women of a Moroccan hammam. Like a cross between your grandma and a WWF wrestler, they’ll clamp you down and scrub til your skin is smoother than George Clooney drinking a single malt scotch.

Itinerary
Day 1-2 - Casablanca-Meknes
Head to a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Meknes medina for the best camel burger you’ll ever try (maybe the only camel burger you’ll ever try). It looks like meatballs and tastes a bit like lamb.
- Get acquainted with Casablanca
- Perhaps stop by the Mosque of Hassan II
- Drive to Meknes and wander around the old medina with a guide
BreakfastDay 3-4 - Fes
Fun Fes fact: University of Al-Karaouine is the world’s first university. It was founded in 859 by a woman. Go Fatima al-Fihri! Head to the main square for a mint tea.
- Take a guided tour of the old city
- Explore the Funduk Nejjarine lodging house
- Why not visit the nearby Medersa el Attarine, built in 1323
- Enjoy some free time and perhaps check out the nearby spa town of Moulay Yacoub
BreakfastDay 5 - Fes-Marrakech
Back on the train, this time to mind-boggling Marrakech. Hit the souks, which start from the Djemaa el Fna and spread outwards in spokes. The front bit is for tourist knick-knacks and the back section is where you’ll find metalworkers, wood carvers, tanneries and cobblers.
- Set off on an all day train ride, bound for Marrakech
- Once in Marrakech, perhaps head to Djemaa el Fna, the great square
BreakfastDay 6-8 - Marrakech
Nighttime in the Djemaa el Fna means fire eaters, snake charmers and storytellers galore. Scrub your sins away in a hammam, shop for tagines, get a Berber coffee and order a plate of piping hot snails.
Day 6
- Take an orientation walk of Marrakech's old medina
- Enjoy free time to explore the souks and alleyways of the city
- Perhaps visit the El Badi Palace, the Majorelle Garden or the Museum of Islamic Art
- Why not stop by the Djemaa el Fna, a hub of exciting local entertainment and cuisine
Day 7
- Spend free time at the shops or exploring the many maze like laneways and streets of the old medina
- Perhaps head back to the Djemma el Fna for a final night out
Day 8
- The trip ends today after breakfast
