Take a Hike

Banff National Park

Jasper National Park
  • Tips from the Boy Scouts manual for lighting a successful campfire:

    • Leave space between the pieces of wood
    • Build up, not out
    • Combine skits, songs, and stories for a memorable outdoor experience
Nominate a "Chief" to manage the phases of the fire, introduce the skits and offer short performances

    Itinerary

    Day 1 - Vancouver - Kelowna

Everyone looks better in the glow of a campfire. Except maybe that guy over there. See who can tell the best ghost story tonight after your Okanagan sunset cruise.

From Vancouver, cross the up-and-down landscape of snow-dusted mountains and dark conifers

    • Stop at Kelowna in the Okanagan Valley
    • Talk around the flickering campfire and get to know your travelling companions
    • Optional sunset cruise on Okanagan Lake
    • As this tour departs at 7:30am we recommend that you book pre-tour accommodation

Day 2-3 - Yoho National Park

In 1858 a bloke was exploring this particular river when he suddenly got kicked by his horse. He lived to tell the tale and named it Kicking Horse River. Guess it's better than Man That Really Hurt River.

View the alpine meadows of Mount Revelstoke National Park en route to Yoho National Park

    • Hike or negotiate the rapids of the Kicking Horse River
    • On day 3 leader will take group to Takakkaw Falls and Emerald Lake

Day 4-5 - Banff National Park

It all gets a bit wild today with the possibility of beavers, bears, porcupines and elk on the trail. Ride the Banff Gondola to Sulphur Mountain's peak and pack your trunks for a dip in the hot springs.

Boot up, saddle up and breathe in the crisp alpine air where nature's bonanza includes beavers, bears, porcupines and elk

    • Ride the Banff Gondola to Sulphur Mountain's peak and recharge your batteries in the hot springs

    Day 6 - Lake Louise

I knew a girl called Louise once. But this lake probably wasn't named after her, cos she can't swim. Actually come to think of it, Louise was a cat.

Perhaps hike out to the Plain-of-Six-Glaciers or inspect the scene by paddle power on an optional canoe trip

Day 7-8 - Jasper National Park

Keep your wits about you because you're in grizzly bear country now. Scrap that, you're in wolf country. Actually you're in both.

    • The breathtaking Icefields Parkway provides a drive with panoramic views of valleys, ridges, glaciers and spruce forests
    • Keep eyes peeled for grizzlies, wolves or caribou
    • Perhaps enjoy the bike trails, helicopter flights and ice-walks

Day 9 - Wells Gray Provincial Park

It's all a bit peaceful, still and silent in Wells Gray. Drive to the end of the road and jump in canoes on Clearwater Lake. The water is exceptionally clear here, in case the name wasn't a big enough hint.

    • Drive through secluded Wells Gray
    • Optional activities include canoeing on Clearwater Lake, or getting a different perspective on horseback
    • There are also numerous hiking trails

    Day 10-11 - Whistler

You know how to get to Whistler don't you? You just put your lips together and...say "I'd like to go to Whistler please."

Travel the old Gold Rush trail through Cache Creek and on to the adventure capital of Western Canada

    Day 12 - Vancouver

It's your last day. Don't forget to buy some maple sugar candies before you leave. It will make your dentist mad but your tummy will be all like, "Mmm thanks for buying those maple sugar candies". Trip ends around 5pm, don't book flights before about 9pm.

Travel on to Vancouver where your tour finishes at approximately 17:00

    • Head off on a sightseeing tour, including a scenic drive through Stanley Park to see the totem poles and a stop at Prospect Point
    • Stride, rollerblade or pedal your way round Stanley Park, or relax and let the free shuttle take the strain
    • Walk the Capilano Suspension Bridge, 230 head-spinning feet above the river before checking out the city nightlife in Gas Town or the  "Robsonstrasse"

If you are planning to fly tonight, please do not book a flight that departs before 21:00 hrs

    Safety Information

    UNFENCED CAMP SITES:
On some trips you will at times stay in unfenced camp sites within national parks. While this is a fantastic experience, there are a few safety rules to follow. While staying in national parks it's important that you listen to any advice given by your tour leader and the park rangers regarding responsible and safe behaviour.
    BEARS:
Whilst travelling throughout North America it's not uncommon to encounter bears within campsites and national parks. Your group leader has been specifically trained for these situations and, if camping, will inform the group on how to 'bear proof' the camp in the evenings or when the site is unattended. There's absolutely no reason to be alarmed by this possibility as it is extremely rare for bears to attack humans.
