We start in colourful Mexico City, home to more than eight million inhabitants and built on the foundations of the ancient Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan. A short distance away are the remains of Teotihuacan, which at its peak was one of the largest cities in the ancient world. It is dominated by two enormous pyramids - the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. Historic Puebla lies in the south-eastern corner of the valley and is full of Spanish colonial treasures. The town of Oaxaca is another place with rich cultural traditions reflecting a bygone era. It is a great place to wander around with cobblestone streets lined with elaborate street lamps and lively plazas that are great places for people watching. Nearby is Monte Alban, the ancient capital of the Zapotecs and one of the first cities in Mesoamerica. Next stop is the small town of Puerto Escondido, famous for beautiful beaches and stunning sunsets. With its legendary nightlife, Acapulco is a great finale to our journey before returning to Mexico City.
