Panama
Step this way for the road less taken. Canny travellers know that the Pan American Highway is at its least explored around Panama, a country that seems to effortlessly pull off the trick of being visitor-friendly and seldom-visited. That its most famous sight – the canal – is man-made can distract from the fact that Panama is a country endowed with abundant natural gifts. From the barefoot relaxation of its Caribbean islands to Central America’s volcanic chain that ends here, the country’s slender frame means exploration leads you quickly from one great sight to another, as well as giving unique experiences –climb up Baru Volcano, for example, and take in spectacular views of both Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Add to that world-class rafting and kayaking, rainforests and hot springs, and as any visitor will readily tell you, Panama’s a place made for adventure.
