    Day 1-2 - Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta usually gets shortened to Yogya. But it’s pronounced with a ‘J’ which means Jogjakarta would then be shortened to Jogja. Maybe avoid mentioning it all.

    • Arrive in Yogyakarta
    • Perhaps take an optional city tour by on a cycle rickshaw (becak) to explore the Sultan's Palace, markets and the batik and puppetry workshops of Yogya
    • Enjoy free time to wander through the markets in Malioboro Street and check out the many cafes in town

    Day 3 - Borobudur - Yogyakarta

Borobudur is the largest Buddhist structure anywhere on earth.  There are stupas and temples and live volcanoes as the backdrop. We guess you could say it’s pretty good.

    • Spend a day exploring one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in South East Asia

    Day 4-5 - Solo - Malang

There’s a long drive to Malang ahead but it’s got a great market and you stay in a cozy little guesthouse on the outskirts of town. Are we forgiven yet?

    • Visit the famous Prambanan complex, which encompasses 224 ruined Hindu temples
    • Spend a night in Solo with its interesting markets, and perhaps visit the Mangkunegaran Palace
    • Drive on to the Dutch colonial town of Malang, set in lush countryside
    • Stay in a guesthouse just outside the centre of Malang

    Day 6-7 - Mount Bromo - Kalibaru

Take a jeep ride across a sea of sand and climb 246 steps at sunrise to the rim of a live volcano. Mount Bromo might look cool, but she smells horrible. Seriously, bring a scarf to cover your nose. Sleep in bungalows in the Kalibaru hills surrounded by coffee and cocoa plantations.

    Day 6

    • Continue to Mount Bromo (Gunung Bromo)
    • Set off in a jeep to view the sunrise
    • Arrive at the crater rim in time for sunrise

    Day 7

    • Take jeeps to a stunning viewpoint for the sunrise and look across to Mount Bromo, Mount Batok and the peak of Mount Semeru
    • Cross the 'sea of sand' and climb 246 steps to the cone of Mount Bromo
    • Drive to the hills of Kalibaru, and stay the night in bungalows near coffee, cocoa and rubber plantations
    • If you're game for 1 am start, perhaps join an optional night trek to catch dawn by the sulphur lake on top of the Ijen volcano

    Day 8-9 - Ubud

    • Journey to Banyuwangi on the eastern tip of Java
    • Perhaps see children diving for coins from high poles - a local sport
    • Take a short boat trip across to Gilimanuk, in the paradise island of Bali
    • Continue on a scenic drive through the villages and forests, and reach the hotel in Ubud
    • Lush jungles, rice fields, temples and incredible local artists – Ubud is one of the most gorgeous places in Bali. Just avoid the Eat, Pray, Love pilgrims You’ll know them by their floppy straw hats and gearless bikes
    • Explore the temples, paddy fields and the famous art and craft market in the centre of town
    • We do not recommend visiting the Monkey Forest in Ubud due to safety reasons

    Day 10-11 - Lovina

Another travel day, but you’ll stop for a dip in the Gitgit Waterfalls to cool you down.

    • Drive towards Bali’s northern coast via the temples of Taman Ayun and the market at Bedugul
    • Visit Gitgit Waterfalls and perhaps take a swim
    • Drive over the highlands that divide the north coast from the south

    Day 12 - Mount Batur - Kintamani

Get up early for a dolphin cruise (optional) before we head into the hills, stopping for Mount Batur along the way.

    • Perhaps make the most of waking up early for an optional dolphin cruise
    • Leave the coast and ascend the scenic slopes of Mount (Gunung) Batur
    • Stop at several viewpoints to take in views of the crater and its lake
    • Stay overnight in the Kintamani area - a highland town at an altitude of 1500 metres

    Day 13-14 - Sanur

Those who are fit and don't mind a 2 am start can attempt an optional climb up to the top of Mount Batur for sunrise

    • Travel to Sanur. Nothing planned here. Just follow your nose to markets, food stalls and beaches. Or stay in bed and sleep. Hey, we're not the boss of you.
    • Hang out at one of Bali’s best beaches
    • Perhaps sit on the beach, go out to eat, relax
    • Maybe squeeze in some optional watersports or visit a turtle conservation centre

    Day 15 - Senaru

Fast boat to Lombok, then a short drive to Senaru. There’s a great contrast what we've just seen. The scenery is really quite different from Bali and the people are predominantly Muslim rather than Hindu.

    • Cross by ferry to Lombok and drive to Senaru

Take a free day to enjoy the lovely surrounds

    • Undertake optional village walks and visit the nearby waterfalls and rice terraces
    • Accommodation is simple with cold water showers, but the weather is hot!

    Day 16-17 - Senggigi

The trek up Mount Rinjani volcano is optional, but you’d be crazy to miss out. You need to be pretty fit, but we’ll take you up to the rim and you can spend the night camping under the stars.

    • Perhaps embark on an early start for a trek up the slopes of Rinjani
    • Spend a full day walking and arrive at the rim of this volcanic mountain, and spend the night camping under canvas or under the stars
    • Hike through mountain forest that echoes to the call of monkeys, and emerge on the moonscape slopes of the volcanic cone
    • Reach the rim at sunrise and enjoy the views from above the clouds and looking down into the crater
    • Take in the panoramas of Rinjani’s peak, Segara Anak (the crater lake) and the new volcano
    • If you do not trek the mountains you can undertake the optional Panorama Walk, which is highly recommended, before driving to Sengiggi, if you embark on the Rinjani trek you will get to Sengiggi on Day 17

    Day 18-20 - Gili Islands

As a reward for your big day of trekking we’ll take you cruising around the Gili Islands. Swim, sunbake, walk or partake in some of the world’s best snorkelling and diving.

    • Travel to the Gili Islands - home to the best snorkelling in Lombok
    • Spend three days relaxing and exploring on these tranquil islands

    Day 21-22 - Sanur

Zip back to south Bali on a fast boat, rather than the slow ferry. This means more time to do a bit of last minute shopping or eat your body weight in prawns.

    Day 21

    • Transfer back to South Bali via fast boat
    • Enjoy the afternoon shopping or relaxing in Sanur
    • Perhaps take an optional last night out with the group
