The Trip was set out well. Although with the price that was paid including the Local Payment I feel that A Flight from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh would have been better, instead of the 10 Hour Bus Ride!! I could of gone without the 3 stops that we had. The places we visited during the tour were well thought out, The beach stay was great and the hotel had a pool. Although the home stay was the Highlight of the trip.

Tipping a little excessive in Vietnam in comparison to Cambodia which is clearly way more in need. Hotels in Nha Trang and Bangkok not to our liking. other than that, great balance of itinerary, activities and free time. Will use Geckos again! All tour guides were fab.

The itinerary is very well planned. With the exception of Sapa, I think we spent just enough time in every destination. Sapa though... I think my tourmates and I agreed that an extra few days would have been nice!

This was such an awesome trip. The places, sites, natural areas, culture, and food was amazing. Our tour leader, Bon, was outstanding and gave us a real insight into Vietnam- the country, its history, and its people. If I was to make an ultimate recommendation- do this great trip and try to time it with Bon's schedule.

jo - Australia, 6 Jun, 2012
Phnom Penh is more the industrial area of Cambodia with the killind fields and S21 the real highlights whilst a harrowing experience it is worth it. Siem Reap is definately the cultural city and more accomodating to the tourist. Whilst Cambodia is a poverty stricken country its resourcefulness and the people are truely remarkable. Ankor wat is a sight to behold.

It was a good and well rounded trip. I learnt things and enjoyed the pace of the tour. Unfortunately I got sick during the trip (tummy bug / vomiting), but Ronney was very sweet and comforting, giving me drinks for energy and staying with me while I was sick on the side of the road. Too much information?

The itinerary arranged was excellent with some free time to relax or do your own personal options. Accommodation in Laos could have been upgraded slightly. Our guide gave us the option of travelling in private bus from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng which was appreciated by all on the tour group and we only had to pay an extra $2.

I had a great time on the Vietnam Encompassed (22 days) tour and enjoyed every moment of it. Our tour guide was extremely friendly and always helpful - and at all times organised! We had no issues the entire trip and I always felt safe. The highlight for me was the overnight stay on a boat in Halong Bay, as well as walking through the mountains of Sapa. Thanks Gecko :)

Absolutely fantastic trip. Couldn't fault anything. It was the perfect mix of relaxation, challenge, excitement, friendship, fun, free time, organised time. Only thing that was needed was another day in Hoi An. This was my second trip to Vietnam. First time free travelling similar route, but with Geckos I saw so much more; it was like visiting the country for the first time. It's the only Vietnam trip to do. Met people on shorter trips and they missed so much! Vietnam encompassed is the only way to see this country. This trip is an absolute must do.

My trip was fantastic from start to finish. The itinerary was well thought out and balanced with the activities provided. Our tour leader vinh was superb as he was professional, approachable, helpful and most of all relaxed around his group and proud of his job and country.Gecko's service from the start was very good and made me feel at ease and any questions i had were answered (even the silly ones). Well done.

I would prefer to have an extra day in Hoi An and a second night in Halong Bay. My tour leader was very professional. His behind the scences organisation made for a very seemless and stress free expereince for not only myslef, but the rest of the tour. He was informative when he needed to be and social, when he needed to be. I would highly recommend this tour, in this direction, to anyone who wishes to experience Vietnam for the first time.

Sandy - Australia, 14 May, 2012
Fantastic experience - the only critisim is that I believe Saigon (Ho Chi Minh)should be cut to one day only - we were non-stop hassled in this city and although we wanted to see it - one day would have been enough and an extra day in Hoi An definately needed (most beautiful town in Vietnam for me - town of laterns, art and shopping and gorgeous at night). Our Tour Leader was second to none - Thanh Vo really looked after all of us - went over and beyond every day and was one of the nicest and sweetest people we had ever met - could not have done Vietnam without him and with how Geckos do it - you have just as much free time as planned tour time and the travel, tipping, transfers, transport, language etc is seamless and so easy with your Tour Leader - loved it but be ready for a culture hit and have your guard up and be savvy in Saigon and at night in Nha Trang - you must do nightclub though in Hanoi - unbelievable!! - happy travels!!!

The tour was really good, I was extremely impressed with the accomodation in Laos considering how new Laos is to tourism. Very disappointed with the Thailand aspect of the tour, as a frequent traveller to Thailand I did not get much if any benefit from travelling with Geckos in Thailand. I have submitted seperate feedback on the Vietnam leg of the trip.

We joined the trip at the end of some others trips. At first this was a bit off putting. However our tour leader made sure that we felt welcome and went out of his way to include us in the group actitvies as we were a bit shy to start off with.

THE OVERALL ADVENTURE TRIP THROUGH VIETNAM WAS GREAT WITH LOTS OF FANTASTIC EXPERIENCES,MEETING VERY FRIENDLY PEOPLE ALONG THE WAY WITH A VERY DIVERSE CULTURE AND FACINATING HISTORY OF STUGGLE AND INDURANCE. MY GUIDE "STEVE" (NGUYEN) WAS JUST THE BEST YOU COULD ASK FOR AND ON THE BALL AT EVERY STAGE AND AT NO TIME DID WE EVER HAVE A DELAY OR HOLD UP TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. APART FROM HAVING MY MOBILE PHONE STOLEN FROM MY HOTEL ROOM IN "SAIGON" AT THE START OF THE TRIP I CAME AWAY WITH A LOT OF GREAT MEMORIES AND LOTS OF FANTASTIC PHOTOS OF A BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE AND SPECTACULAR PLACES LIKE "HALONG BAY" (MY FAVOURITE) "THANKS GECKO" AND THANKS "STEVE" (MY GUIDE)

This was the third Gecko's tour I had been on. I thought Cambodia was every bit as good as Egypt when it came to ancient sites. The town centre of Siem Reap was beautiful and provided a good atmosphere for night night activities with the group. I would have loved to stay an extra few days in Siem Reap but that is not a criticism of the tour. In hindsight, I should have arrived a few days earlier. The trip to Phnom Penh from SR was priceless and the fried tarantulas was unforgettable, a tour highlight in its own right. Phnom Penh was good but not quite Siem Reap.

The information relating to currency was very confusing. The dollar is not widely used and the exchange rate in kyats depends on the denomination of the notes. The exchange rate at the airport is not good and was not recommended by our tour leader. The recommended amount to be spent on meals and snacks was way over the top but this could depend on the make up of the group. The tipping kitty was an excellent idea. There is no-where on the train to fasten luggage with a chain so it isn't necessary to take one. A water bottle just was not necessary as all the drinking water was provided in bottles anyway. The phrase book wasn't necessary either.

This was an amazing tour. I toured with my husband. Our leader Anek was very knowledgable and obsiously passionate about his country and sharing as much information as he could about Thailand. We had some great experiences, highlights being meeting the local people and being immersed in their culture (especially up north with the hill tribes), and the stay at the Elephant Conservation Centre in Lampang. That was truely amazing! We actually thought we would be roughing it a bit more on this tour but the accommodation each night at a different location was always totally acceptable with comfortable beds and clean amenities. Tip - take loo paper and ear plugs though for overnight train trip and snorers when sharing a room with other travellers! We now feel we have a good grasp of what life is like for Thai people, their religion and their culture, which was our whole reason for doing this tour. Now off to the Sth beaches for some relaxing!!

Whilst I am glad to have experienced Northern Thailand, I found it a very differnt place than what I was expecting. It can be very smoggy and polluted. The travelling involved in this trip was also very exhausting. However, the majority of people are friendly and generous; the food is amazing and so inexpensive and there is endless shopping to be done!

A very good trip which emcompasses the many sights to experience in Myanmar/Burma. The Golden Rock was a brilliant end to the tour. The only place the tour didnt go was to one of the beaches, which would have been fun. Maybe by extending the trip by one day and spending less time in Yangon this could be done.

Good pacing of the trip, didn't spend too long at certain sites, but spent enough time to really get an appreciation for where we were.Amazing Sarawak
Bronwyn - New Zealand, 17 Jan, 2012
This trip was a really excellent way to see some of the inner, less accessible areas of Sarawak. It was great to step away from the hum-drum routine of daily life, gaining a glimpse into another culture that was different enough to feel like an adventure.... one that felt more like a month rather than 10 days seeing as we fitted so much action in! There was enough flexibility to feel that you were independent, yet enough support to make it easy! The best of both worlds. We saw very few tourists and had many opportunity to interact with the locals which certainly enhanced the experience.

Ly Sok Kheang was everything you could want in a tour guide- professional, friendly and he gave us a real sense of the turmoil that Cambodia has been through in recent history. I also liked the way our guide would organize trips for a few of us who wanted to go off the beaten track. Again these ran flawlessly, delivered more than we expected, and never cost much.
I would give Na Trang a miss as it was just another tacky resort compared to the cultural richness available everywhere else in Vietnam.

My Partner and I actually completed the Cambodia & Ancient Angkor trip on the 12 - 17 of october and would highly recommend it to anyone! We were a bit apprehensive about doing a tour as we have always travelled our own way - however, even though there was extensive flooding - it was the best holiday we have been on! Our Guide Kinal Min was absolutely brilliant! She was so passionate and informative about her homeland, always going out of her way to make sure we had the best possible experience. Everything that this trip incorporated went far beyond what we expected - from the emotional heart-wrentching stories of S-21 to the amazing achitecture of ancient Angkor. The most rewarding experience was being witness to the way of life, resilience and beautiful smiles of the local people. we will certainly be back to Cambodia for a longer stay sometime soon. Gecko's were great! It really makes a difference having a tour guide who comes from the country you are visiting. They know the culture, history and best places to eat! Would not hesitate to go with Gecko's again.

We had so much fun! With a well organised itinerary and an awesome leader we have nothing to fault about our whole experience. We loved Vietnam and felt that with the tour we chose we got to see a great diversity of places. We are both so glad we chose to go on a tour and didn't try and navigate crazy beautiful Vietnam ourselves. We would definitely go on a Gecko Tour again.

Really loved the trip and all included experiences, but think that more breakfasts could be provided at guesthouses, as we were encouraged to support the owners of these establishments whilst away, so often purchased breakfasts at the location anyway.
An additional activity or provision for 'The Gibbon Experience' would be wonderful as although it is available to participate in, being dependent on the train arrival times makes it difficult to book in. One extra day in this location?
Luang Prabang and the surrounds exceptionally beautiful and community welcoming. Laos a wonderful place to visit!Vietnam Encompassed

Extras can add up especially if you are with very group oriented people. (i.e dinners & lunches in restaurants on top of day trips) It is way cheaper eating street food! Overall it was loads of fun with support and good laughs and memories from everyone.
I found De Lat to be a waste of time for people not in lovey dovey relationships.
Also too much time was spent in big cities...ran out of things to do.
More time in Hoi An would have been good as well as in Nha Trang!
Also some warning anbout the cold in the north and preparing for the mud in the trek of Sapa would have been helpful.

Scope of the tour was great. I feel I have seen quite a bit of thailand, and I thought the tour did a good job in covering many landscapes and experiences. Being able to spend some time in each of the places felt better than 'every night a different location'. I now can recommend places I've seen on this tour to others having felt I got enough out of each spot. Can't beat the value for money aspect of SEA countries, this didnt disappoint.

I met great people & was relieved when I met 4 other single travelers! I met a lovely Swisse couple in amongst our Aussie group! Saigon was a great start although short & sweet- just enough to get a taste for more! The drives to the borders were long but gave us great bonding time & see the sights.
Cambodia was amazing. With great food, I learnt so much about its history & how far they've risen from upheaval. I'll never forget that I prayed to a Buddha from the 9th Century in Angkor Wat, Siem Reap! Bangkok was short and sweet again. I found it to be too commercialised compared to Cambodia & Vietnam. I would consider Laos instead. I had no incidents with local crime, crossing borders or health. The locals don't treat you any differently. I loved the haggling at markets, all in the name of fun.Northern Thailand Encounter

This trip really surprised us, we did not expect to see so much non-touristy things, and honestly did not expect to have such a backpacker feel. The day-time traveling was hard, and it was also very difficult to sleep on the night-train. I had amazing tour and our tour guide Ae was great! She knows how to guide poeple who don't know each other. She can answer every question, knows a lot about the country and its people and she has a great sence of humor.
Two things what I would like to recommend: First: Please let the customers know that the north of Laos can be very, very cold in December in the monrnings, nights and evenings. We all expected warmer temperatures and had the wrong clothes with us.
Second: I really appreciate to get in contact with local people. But a local bus from Vang Vieng to Vientiane is too much! It's a 5 hours trip with locals who are not very amused to drive with people, who could afford a better bus and sitting now on their places. And for us was the drive not a experience we needed to know.Thank you Gecko tours, I will recommend
your agency and for sure: I will book a tour with again!Best of Burma

I feel that the night train to Mandalay should provide sleepers for all on trip w/blankets and on a better train service.
Also, the 4km walk to the Kyaikhtiya Pagoda should be available in the price for those who find it difficult to do the walk to be able to use porters.

I very much enjoyed the geckos tour in Vietnam overall.
Unfortunately, one group member found the physical aspects of the tour quite challenging due to her age, and this impacted on the other group members as she demanded a large amount of our guide's time and energy.
It would be helpful if geckos made it clear to participants that special arrangements cannot always be made for those physically unable to participate.

Possibly implement a few age brackets for tours (maybe 30 and under, 30+ and open) or even an age restriction for older people. We had a 72 or something year old who really wasn't suited for the trip. I was worried about having older people on my tour. I was the youngest in my group (21) and most of the others were older but it was actually fine and I had no problems. Others who in the future are looking at going on a tour may be disappointed however, especially seeing as geckos is supposed to be aimed at a "younger audience" and they might be expecting that.
The trip was simply amazing! The amount of experiences throughout my time in Vietnam will forever provide me with many fond memories. The vast amount of scenery, activities and sights explored is great as well as many opportunities to do your own thing in free time. Combined with a fun tour leader and good company in new found friends, Gecko's have created great opportunities for those wanting to get out and explore the world!

The generosity of my guide was very impressive. His eagerness to give us the best experience of Vietnam was infectious and I truly believe that he was the reason I now count Vietnam as one of my favourite places to visit.Nam created an environment that made you feel as if we were family and it was extremely sad when the tour came to an end. His ability to organise and take care of the people on his tour was evident and he gained my total trust as we ate street food night after night without even a hint of illness. Although this was out first overseas trip and nothing to compare to, this would be the the best experience I have ever had. The destinations were a MUST for anyone visiting Vietnam. The experience of travelling within Vietnam on the buses and trains and the sleeper buses was definately an experience. The homestays were the best of all. The only downside was the "dayrooms". I think that if you paid for a room, you should have a room and not share with 4 or 5 others, but this did not dampen the overall experience. I would recommend this tour to everybody I see.

I had a wonderful trip, which was in part due to the excellent group of people on my tour and the guide we had for the Thailand and Laos leg of the trip went above and beyond. The places visited on the tour were great, and despite being a grassroots tour, the accommodation was of a higher standard than expected. Some of the travel (including bus trips up to 7-8 hours) were tedious and at times monotonous, but necessary given the places visited on the tour. Gecko's dedication to the respect of the culture and environment of countries visited is to be admired. I would recommend this tour to anyone wishing to see the best that Laos and Cambodia has to offer, especially if you're travelling on a limited time frame.

I was really pleased with everything on this trip. I felt that we had been adequately briefed with what to expect on the tour and that it did not disappoint. The tour guides were excellent and they were determined to make the experience as comfortable as possible for everyone.
I did feel that in general I wasn't aware before hand that we would be swapping groups half way through and that the handover between the groups was not as smooth as it could have been.
The fact that we really enjoyed ourselves despite the terrible flooding in Thiland was a credit to the tour guides who did a lot to allay our fears/concerns.
One point I would also note is that on some of the longer journeys we did on local songthoaws it was pretty uncomfortable. On the longer journeys (2-3 hours plus) I would wonder whether a chartered bus may have been more appropriate (although admittedly more expensive...)
Overall, however, I was delighted with the trip and had a wonderful time.

This was my first group trip and it was excellent. I am now planning more group trips in the future as it is a great way to travel on your own. Thankyou very much!

the tour was amazing!!! everything was planned to the letter thanks to the help of our wonderful tour guide. even when mother nature stepped in our tour leader went above and beyond. the food, accommodation and activities were more than i expected with extra little bonus's along the way. will travel with gecko again next trip. great for all ages aswell. 2 thumbs up
