1. CHOW TIME
There are 44.2 billion mentions of Malaysian food on the internet. We have a sudden craving for Laksa.
2. BIKE INVASION
When the Japanese invaded Malaysia they did it on bicycles, taking only 45 days to get from the north to the south.
3. BIG STUFF
The world’s largest cave, the Sarawak Chamber, is in Malaysia. It’s big enough to hold forty Boeing 747s. And about 3,000 ponies.
4. THE OTHERS
Malaysians rarely call themselves Malaysians, at home at least. They’re either Chinese, Indian or Dan Lain Lain – the others.
5. SHARP CASH
The Malaysian currency is ringgit, which means ‘sharp edges’. This was because of the rough silver coins the Spanish brought with them.
6. TALL BUILDINGS
The KL Towers look taller than the Petronas Towers, by cheating. They’re built on a hill.
The Malays have 9 reigning royal families.
8. OLD WOOD
Malaysia’s tropical forests are the oldest in the world. They look pretty good for a 130 million year old.
9. GOING ROUND
Malaysia boasts the world’s largest roundabout. It’s 3.5km in diameter. Bring snacks in case you miss your exit.
10. THE POINTY BIT
If you need to point at something, use your thumb. A finger is considered rude.
