If there’s one thing we know about Slovenia, it’s that we know 10 things about Slovenia. So here they are.
1. GOING DEEPER UNDERGROUND
There are over 10,000 caves in Slovenia. The best known, Postojna, runs for around 20km. That’s a lot of time in the dark.
2. WINE, WINE, WINE
They’re not the whingey sort, they just like a drink. In fact there is a vineyard or winery for every 70 people.
3. LOVELY JUBBLY
The capital, Ljubljana, translates to The Loved One.
4. SLOVENIAN RIVIERA
Slovenia may only have 46km of coastline but it’s heaven. Think Italian Riviera, with cappuccinos, yachts and gelato.
5. BEARS, BEARS, BEARS
There are still over 400 Brown Bears in Slovenia and a whole lot of forest for them to hide in. In fact 60% of Slovenia is forested. Two facts for the price of one. Fact.
6. TRUE LOVE
If couples marry at the church on Bled Island the groom must carry the bride up the 99 steps.
7. HIGH ACHIEVERS
The first married couple to summit Everest were from Slovenia.
8. OLD WORLD
The world’s oldest vine, at 400 years old, is in Maribor. Pre-aged wine. Nice.
9. LONG JUMPERS
The world’s largest ski jump is here and been the site of 60 world record jumps.
10. HEY, GOOD LOOKING
The people are ridiculously good looking. We know we’ve said it before, but it needs to be said again.
