Pizza in Italy, waffles in Belgium, fromage in France, bratwurst in Germany… Eat all the things on a Geckos jaunt through Europe.
It’s hard to know where to start in Europe.
Do you go with the famous sights ala the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Cesky Krumlov’s fairy-tale Old Town or Venice’s watery canals?
Do you immediately don your Sherlock Holmes cap and head out to find the coolest hidden bar? Or do you pool your Euros, grab your crew and set out in search of the best gyros, gelati or waffles you can find?
No matter which way you go, Europe’s charmingly cobbled lanes will never lead you astray.

Our destinations for Europe trips
Europe with Geckos

Cool accommodation in central locations
Because we don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn each morning to speed to the next destination, we get to stay in cool, artsy hostels in the heart of a city, not in campsites on the outskirts of town. This way, we’re perfectly placed to soak up them local vibes; and the sights, bars and bakeries are just a hop, skip and a slow cobblestoned stroll away.

More trains, less buses
Although we take the occasional bus, we do most of our cross-Europe gallivanting by train. Why? Because trains are rad. They’re faster and comfier, not to mention way more European. You’re more likely to solve a mystery on a train, Agatha Christie-style, and less likely to vom from motion sickness.

Small group tours
At Geckos, we like to keep things cosy, which is why we cap our groups at a max of 16. Not only does it make getting around easier, it also allows us to see stuff the big tour groups miss. We’re not 50 strangers crammed into a bus like sardines; on average, we’re nine new mates eating sardines on a Mediterranean cliff top (or pasta, if you think sardines are gross).

Slow it down, baby
Europe can be overwhelming. There’s so much to see! It’s easy to jump from city to city like a cat on a hot tin roof, or to feel like you’ve ‘done’ Paris because you saw the Eiffel Tower from a distance. While our trips cover lots of destinations, we try to stay a few days in each so we can spend less time on transport and more time sinking our claws into the juicy stuff. Yeah.

Travel made super easy
Travel with us, and there’s no need to sweat the logistics. We’ll give you plenty of time to do your own thing, but your leader will always be there to provide hot tips and directions to top-secret locations (the fun – not dangerous – kind). Which means you’ll have more energy to spend on deciding which flavour of vodka to try in Krakow. Cherry, chestnut, cinnamon…the struggle is real, guys.

Local everything
Why travel half way across the world and never really leave home? We like to tread lightly and do all of the things local: transport, restaurants and most of all, leaders. These legends were born and raised in awesome destinations all over Europe, so they know what’s crackin’. They’ll take you out of your comfort zone and help you meet real-life locals, while simultaneously having your back in all situations. Skillz.
why we love europe
- Venice is like a dream; it’s your chance to sip prosecco, drift down grand canals on a gondola and dominate Instagram with scenes of impossible romance.
- Travelling in a smaller group of like-minded people (friends!) mostly by trains is the best way to get around.
- Soak up the smooth sounds of jazz at a low-lit bar in Prague, step into a real life fairytale in Cesky Krumlov, and gorge on the history, architecture and bohemian vibes of the amazing Czech Republic
- Amsterdam has been developed with cyclists in mind, so the best way to see it is to hire a bike and hit the charming streets with your expert local leader (just watch out for those canals)
- No Italian adventure would be complete without a visit to Rome. Enjoy plenty of free time to discover the ancient Colosseum, stroll through Vatican City and gaze up towards the gods inside St Peter's Basilica

The Gecko's trip was an awesome adventure! Our group of 16 quickly became a team in the first few days which lead to some sad "goodbyes" towards the end. There was a good mix of active and relaxing days and we always had something to do, see, or eat. Highly recommended for solo or group travellers who want to see cool places and meet new people.

This trip was great! I had a wonderful experience (had never travelled with a group before). The people in my group were amazing. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and I learned a lot about the Moroccan culture. The trip destinations were well chosen and definitly worth seeing. Would definitly recommend this trip!

Overall, the trip was great and met my expectations. It wasn’t my first time in Morocco, however this time I discovered a real Moroccan culture and food. Obviously the highlight of the trip was the desert, todra gorge and high Atlas. I wish there was more hiking involved in this itinerary - it was not active enough for me. Diversity of my travel group was minimal where the majority of travelers were from Australia, especially people travelling in groups of friends.

Absolutely one of the BEST travel experiences I have ever had. Despite my reservations about tours (either too party oriented, too tourist orientated, or aimed at older travellers), at 21, this trip ticked ALL the boxes. With our local guide Hicham, we went off the beaten track and I came away feeling like I really got to see the real Morocco (I definitely don’t think this would’ve been possible without our guide).

Fantastic trip, great group and Hicham was a great tour guide. I had the best birthday waking up in the Sahara and that was the highlight of the trip, but I also loved the other places we visited especially Moudlay Idriss. Although not included in the trip it would have been great to visit Chefchaouen. Bring more spending money with you than you imagine and if you go in January, Morocco can get cold!

5.0 - Excellent It was a great tour! Everything was streamlined, and it just gets better and better! Our guide Issmail is wonderful, funny and knowledgeable, gives you a lot of insights to the local life in Morocco. Hotels are budget, but clean and comfortable (which is good enough for me), restaurants might be a little touristy but no doubt the food is good! Overall it was a wonderful experience and I would recommend anyone to do it.

The Essential Morocco trip was incredible! Our group was so lucky to have such an amazing guide in Saaid - he was the most caring, approachable, humorous and friendly guide! We were also very lucky in that we became such great friends and like a tight knit family which made the experiences and the adventures even more special and enjoyable. The opportunities provided in this tour are out of this world from eating camel burgers to sleeping under the stars in the Sahara. Seriously, Morocco heightens your senses in every single way - if you love colour, exotic spices, smells and delicious food (tagine all day!) then Morocco is definitely for you. DO IT!

The Essential Morocco trip was full of colour, culture and creative inspiration! There was something exciting waiting round every corner, from the mosques and palaces to the colourful hillside villages and stunning valleys. The Sahara desert camel trek and sleeping beneath the stars was my favourite part of the trip - an unforgettable experience! Definitely take a camera, not just one on your phone, as Morocco is so photogenic. And take a bit of extra cash (and leave room in your suitcase) for souvenirs, as they are worth getting but are a little larger than trinkets! I bought a tablecloth and was tempted by the rugs, but hadn't enough money or suitcase space.

Turkey is a truly beautiful country and this trip was a fantastic way to experience the immense beauty and uniqueness of Turkey. I loved every minute of this trip. It was a perfect balance of travel, people, nature and history. Unfortunately we weren't able to camp in Butterfly Valley because we weren't able to get the boat to the Valley because of some storms at sea. However the alternative activites offered by our guide Burak more than made up for this slight initial disappointment. Could not recommend this trip more!

Overview: Incredible trip! Delicious food, adventure, relaxation, history, and culture. I would absolutely recommend this trip, the only caveat is that you do spend between 2 - 4 hours on a bus each morning getting to your next destination. It always included stops to grab snack and wasn't bad, but if you get car sick really easily then this might not be the best trip for you.

Great trip, especially for solo female travelers. Note that van time is pretty significant (and ours didn't really have AC) - travel time was a bigger part of the trip than I had expected and when the itinerary says free time, it means time in the hotel (other than the free day in Marrakech). That being said, the places we stayed were fantastic and Morocco was beautiful - I probably could not have done it with so much ease on my own.
