Sure, you could Google ‘Easiest ways to see to Machu Picchu’ if that’s all you want to do, but we say walk it. Why? Because it will be the most rewarding experience of your whole entire life. Big call, we know, but seriously – if you can get through 45 kilometres of rocky terrain and up-down-up-down staircases, four days of drop toilets and three nights of pretty chilly camping, you can get through anything. For realsies.
Inca Trail tours start at Kilometre 82, just outside Ollantaytambo, where we fill our pockets with lollies in preparation for the epic adventure ahead. Mosey through cloud forests, scramble across narrow bridges, munch on jellybeans as you hit Struggle Town on the way up Dead Woman’s Pass, and LOL at all the woolly llamas strutting past… Walking the Inca Trail is a mean feat, but nothing beats watching the sun rise over Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate and smugly smiling ‘I just walked the Inca trail and you didn’t’ at all the day-trippers.

Essential Peru, June 2018
Geckos were incredible at involving me in the local cultures and communities of everywhere I visited, and I returned home with so many experiences and memories to cherish. If you want to take an adventure off the typical tourist track and get immersed in your travels, this is for you!

The Inca Trail, May 2018
The geckos trips were a great way to see parts of the country. The tours were well planned and detailed information provided on the website and brochures. Staff on the tours spoke good English and were extremely helpful. Highly recommend doing a geckos tour while travelling the globe.
