Why we love Central America
Walk through the clouds at Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
Taking its name from the semi-permanent clouds that hug the tree canopy, cloud forests are a hazy, tropical paradise. Try and spot some of the incredible wildlife that call Monteverde home (including hummingbirds, monkeys and more than 1,200 species of amphibians) as you zip-line through the forest.
Snorkel the Belize Barrier Reef
A spectacular, underwater kaleidoscope of colours, the Belize Barrier Reef is the largest reef system in the northern hemisphere! Scuba divers and snorkelers flock to here to swim amongst the bright pink, orange, red and blue coral, as well as the diverse array of fish, sponges and marine species that make the Belize Barrier Reef one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world.
Colonial charm with a Caribbean twist in Antigua
Antiguans like to boast they have ‘a beach for each day of the year’. We don’t know if it’s true but we’re up for the challenge. What makes this sun-kissed island so special is its impressive collection of preserved colonial architecture – a cobblestone maze of colonial buildings, churches and plazas, flanked by three volcanoes. Plus lots of idyllic Caribbean beaches!
Explore Mexico’s ancient ruins
Mexico’s ancient civilisations sure knew how to build things that last. Massive pyramids and various archaeological sites scattered across the country provide an incredible glimpse into the past. From the Tulum ruins overlooking the Caribbean to the Mayan complex of Chichen Itza in Yucatan, there are plenty of incredible sites to see in between sessions at the beach.
Wander through colourful Havana
Crumbling, but not quite. Caribbean, but not quite. Havana’s fascinating social and political history permeates its weathered colonial architecture. You can catch glimpses of the city’s former wealth down every street, which are lined with colourful buildings. Famed for being Ernest Hemingway’s former stomping ground, quality cigars and a thriving cultural scene, there’s no place quite like Havana.
Discover the twin peaks of Ometepe Island
The two large volcanoes rising out of Lake Nicaragua provide a stunning symmetrical backdrop to this isolated tropical retreat. Soak up the sun as you lay on black sand beaches, try your hand reading the island’s petroglyphs (ancient rock carvings) or spot wildlife as you kayak down the Istian River – all while the call of howler monkeys echo in the background. This is island living at its best.

Travelling with Geckos Adventures was a great travel choice. It was a great introduction to local culture, history and flavour of Cuba. Not only was our guide a wealth of knowledge and helped us experience Cuba like a local, but we met many locals through this tour and experienced less touristy excursions. Highly recommend this trip!

Vintage Cuba was a great trip - it was interesting to know more about the Cuban culture and experience it first hand by staying in the residents' casas, our guide was lovely and very approachable throughout. It's a trip that gives you a lovely snapshot of Cuba, mixing the history with leisure splendidly. Would definitely recommend for a short trip, or as a stopover between South/ Central America.

Vintage Cuba had a little bit of everything included. Local history, culture, and interactions with people I otherwise would not have been able to meet. I had a great time and would like to recommend this trip to anyone who is considering taking it.

This trip is a great way to get an in depth experience of the real Mexico, visiting some amazing towns along the way and having at least 2 nights in most destinations to have time to really see each town! Our tour leader was very knowledgeable and gave us a great insight into the local culture.

I would definitely recommend the Vintage Cuba trip. My tour guide, Adíta, was amazing! She helped plan out activities, suggested restaurants, and definitely made our trip as memorable as it could be. The included activities are a lot of fun, and Cuban culture and food are the best. Go for it!

Adita was fantastic. I was honestly sad to be leaving her, and we all became quite close in the smaller group towards the end. She always had a beaming smile on her face, she was incredibly professional, enthusiastic, approachable, friendly and I will never forget her. I really cant emphasise how much I appreciated having someone like her show me around her fascinating and beautiful company. Make sure you come with an open mind and the intentin of making great friends!
