There’s more to China than a great big wall. Here’s proof.
1. Population Explosion
China has 1.35 billion people. Which means that one in every five people in the world is Chinese.
2. Fresh Crabs
There is a vending machine in Nanjing that sells live crabs. It sells around 200 a day.
3. Olympic fever
There are around 4,000 kids in China called Aoyun, which translates to “Olympic Games”.
4. Rumour Has it
Our sources tell us 10,000 pigeons are being trained by the military as communications back up. Our source is the internet. Totally trustworthy.
5. Long standing
China is the world’s oldest continuous civilization.
6. Lucky Numbers
The number eight is a very lucky number in China, as it sounds like the word for wealth. The number four is unlucky because it sounds like the word for death. Don’t be surprised to find the 4th floor left off elevator buttons.
7. Forbidden City
The Forbidden City was built in such a way that it is impossible to see into from above. But when you are inside you can still see plenty of sky. Now that’s engineering.
Traffic is so bad in parts of China there is a whole industry hiring stand-ins. Someone will whisk you away by motorbike while some poor other guy sits in your car in traffic for you.
9. Great Wall
Over 1 million people died building the Great Wall.
10. Wine Drinkers
The Chinese consume more wine per capita than the French.
