Bled is like something out of a fairytale. But there’s no need to worry about trolls and witches as long as you stick to the path and don’t wander into the forest. This is Slovenia’s adventure capital and pretty much any adventure sport can be done here including rafting and rock climbing. But if you’re more into view gazing and cake eating, there’s plenty of that too. Just stay away from any gingerbread houses, no matter how tasty they look.
8am Start the day with a kava smetana; Turkish-style coffee with a dollop of cream on top.
10am Hire a bike and ride to Vintgar Gorge. You’ll probably say “Wow” a lot but no one will hear you above the rapids.
12pm Take the cable car up Mt Vogel for the best picnic spot in town.
2pm Have a sugar hit with a cream cake at Slascicarna Smon.
4pm Take a walk around the lake. Take in the mountain views, the swans, the clifftop castle and the rollerblading locals.
6pm Paddle a boat to the island church, hike up the 99 steps and ring the bell and make a wish.
8pm Dine on sausages or fresh fish with a side of the local vino. Luckily for you Slovenia only exports a small amount of their wine, keeping the best local.
10pm Time for a final walk to the Lake. In Summer the sky will still be glowing for hours and there’ll probably be a band playing somewhere near the lake.
