24 hours in Cesky Krumlov
Read time: a bit over 1 minute
If you’ve ever wanted to star in your own fairytale then Cesky Krumlov is probably the best place in the world to do it. It has everything you need: meandering river (Czech), picturesque castle (Czech), cobbled streets (Czech) and ye olde buildings (Czech). For a tiny little town there’s a suprising amount to do, from the sporty, to the bohemian and the boozy. Here’s how we would spend a fairytale day in Cesky. Crowns not essential, but recommended.
8am On the menu for breakfast this morning is deliciousness at a riverside cafe. Graze through bread rolls, cold meats, cheeses and pastries.
10am Start the sightseeing at the beautiful castle. It dates back to the 13th century but Renaissance-style won the battle of the renovations. From here you’ll have a great view of your subjects going about their daily toil.
12pm Rent a canoe and start drifting down the Vltava River. Pretty Cesky soon gives way to rolling countryside. Or just go as far as the next convenient riverside pub.
3pm Talking of beer, take a tour of the Cesky Krumlov brewery. Or if art’s more your thing, visit the Egon Shiele Art Centrum.
6pm Make a bee-line for the riverside bars for an evening beer.
8pm Make the most of Cesky’s natural and arty scenes with a show at the Revolving Theatre. This outdoor venue presents everything from Shakespeare to ballet and puppetry.
10pm A late dinner of Czech favourite foods to the sounds of Roma music at the Gypsy Rooms.
