24 hours in Chicago
Read time: less than a minute
Overlooked by the tourist masses, Chicago is a quietly confident city full of endearing locals and some seriously brutal winters.
7am Enjoy a classic American breakfast combo of a coffee and a bagel at Dollop, a café that manages to make a strong coffee that doesn’t taste like burnt rubber.
10am Get lost in the Chicago Institute of Art – and no, we don’t mean ‘get lost’ in a whimsical, arty way. This building is truly confusing, you will get lost, leave a trail of breadcrumbs just to be sure.
1pm Don an oversized, foam finger and catch a Cubs game at Wrigley Field, the second oldest major league baseball park in America. Hate on the Boston Red Sox for bonus points with the feisty locals.
5.00pm Grab a slice of mac n’ cheese pizza at cult, stoner pizza joint, Dimo’s. Hell, just stay a while and sample other rad flavours which include: Chicken & Waffle, Steak & Fries, and Lasagna pizza.
9.00pm Get your Boardwalk Empire on and head to the Green Mill Jazz Club – a bona-fide gangster’s paradise. This was Al Capone’s number one hangout, and little has changed since the days of prohibition. Sit in Al’s favourite booth, sip a whisky and watch the local jazz scene hop.
